THE SLAIVER ARE DEAD - statement

Last saturday i left the band, the Slaiver are dead. We decided to play in Turin anyway in order to be correct with the people there but we stopped all the things going.

It's a tough issue to face but i feel like explain everything the best i can because i think you all deserve it.

I don't have the motivation i was used to until 6 months ago or so, doing things for the band became just really tiring, and it has never been this way before, nerver so clear, not even in other really bad moments, not even like when, back in 2005, i almost left the whole music thing.

So i crushed onto myself to find proper motivations and discourage myself to leave the band, and, beside all the momentaneous thoughts that came out, i just dig a hole in between me and the guys. In realised we were both stuck in this shit, they weren't able to keep playing as they wanted and i was stuck in between the recent past and a future i figured different. Anyway, those were only thoughts as any human being could have, i only reached the point of everything thinking in a total rational way, that i dont want to do things partially, cutting, reshaping, not this band.

We have never been a business oreinted band, money grubbing, we never cared that much on number of copies sold, marketing, cool magazines, tvs wannabes, videoclips, sponsors, endorsing, products, ass licking and trendy crews and we never cared on introducing ourselves to the music elite and godfathers, that was just not for 4 guys like us. The Slaiver have been trough the years our main creative outlet, a ground of knowledge, source of pure fun, and somehow our "religion", our place in the world, our voice in. We basically spent the 90% of our free time working on this, adjusting anything else to the band.

Disowning this way of living but wishing to stay true, honest, real, created an inner confilct, giving birth to an untrue situation impossible to carry on. I take this decison today in order to giving up the thing while is still alive, worthy, deserving, to avoid the sad possibility to see it dying day by day or to call it quits in even more crucial points.

During the last few months we received some really interesting proposals for the next records, and i don't want to go ahead with this carrying doubts and giving a partial commitment thinking if /how terminate the band itself.

From an human point of view this is for me a great loss, a painful goodbye, and aside the feeling of being honest and true i can tell you i didn't feel any better or relieved, but this is a decision i did take on my own and i'll go on.

I want to Thank Andrea cause we've been playing together since 1994 and never stopped until now, Fabio and Paolo because it's only with them that the band started properly back in 2004.

I thank the guys because they have been an awesome company in fun, i have a lot of wonderful memories.

We've been lucky finding each other. I can't barely imagine myself without stepping in the van and sit on the right side backseat that i never left (to avoid bad luck), i hope i'll get the chance to step in again sometimes, running on highways, saying bad jokes, waking up again after crazy nights, and arrive to the next club on the right time.

I feel like write down some names of people i want to shout "thank you", hope i wont forget anybody, that would be bad:

Andrea, Fabio, Paolo, Caterina, Francesca, Mastello, Machno, Dano, Lo Spesso, Risko, Andrea Tallone, everyone @ Nuvolari, Nicolas e the guys in Fuh, Cinema Vekkio, Gabbo, Chris @ DVI e gli Helvete, Ale e Vibratacore, Manu @ Autobahn, Ale Brun, Fabio e Ale @ Ratatoj, Fabio for recording us and being our sound tech, Frank Alloa, Giulio Favero, tutti i RADIO RIOT RIGHT NOW, Aste, Giulio The Bastard, El Paso squat at the end of '90s – early 2000, Jean Pierre – Liege, Igor – Amsrerdam, Brainbad, Mettus, Luca Benedet, Fabio e Escape from Today, NOINFO, i already feel like i forgot someone. And then the names of some bands i really love: Fuh, Radio Riot Right Now, Treehorn, Io Monade Stanca, To Kill, Cani Sciorri, surely i forgot someone again, but anyway, Cuneo rocks.

I want to thank all the people who wrote us during the last days while the bad news was already running, it'a a little heartbreaking but at least i can say that we really gave something wich has been reached, we never spoke out to the masses, we tried to leave some emotions to the people, and i'm happy we accomplished.

I have nothing more to say, so i'll just stop here.

If you feel like writing me reply here or drop a message to enrico . grosso (a) hotmail . com

Love each other so much, see you around.

Hell yeah in two weeks we’ll land to Sweden to shred some stage with our pals in Helvete (wich in Swedish means hell and it’s a truly proper description of their shows). Totally stoked about it.

The guys from lovalive.tv came and filmed the show in Cuneo with ZU, they made a pretty good editing mixing up our live set with the interview and even if i look a little confused while speaking i can say is kinda cool and you deserve to see it.

The interview

Live part 1

We love Cuneo! OK Fest and us with ZU at Nuvolari report.

I already blogged out on myspace about how much we feel thankful that we can count on some very special people’s support and love. Today i say it again, we love you all. Hails to the ones who set up OK Fest and to the bunch of fellas who attended the show. The place was fucking crowded! It is such a great honor to be loved so much in the area where you grown up, you may say it’s easier but i’l tell you it has never been like that, never like now. We love to think that something has changed for all the bands coming from Cuneo’s area, i think there’s some people around thirsty of music, shows, new sounds today then 4 years ago for example. I’m glad i can consider The Slaiver as a part of it together with bands like FUH, IO MONADA STANCA, CANI SCIORRI and FAGETZ just to mention a few. My loved Caterina (www.caterinapecoraro.com - drop an eye on it is really worth it) took some excellent and meaningful shots of that night:

He won. He's the star.

Risko from hatetv took this one, you can see the whole gallery on our myspace and dont miss it cos is kinda awesome.

Saying that playing with ZU has been cool is just like the couple McCain - Pallin, totally useless. It was great.
They are great, and even if i saw them playing like a houndred times and even if i’m not anymore in to it that much, they still surprise me a lot. Luca Benedet (myspace.com/thefotografiks) took some extracool pictures too, and one of those is our current main avatar. Tnx Luca!

MY FRIENDS ARE JUNKIES - A WEEK WITH THE SLAIVER

Yo everybody. I did try to write a whole tour diary just to realize it would be a waste of time cause i’m kinda sure none is interested on our shitty jokes except from ourselves cause we’re too stupid. So i thought just writing the highlights would be way better. The meanimg of this whole blog is to drop hugs and smiles to the cool ones we met touring, a way not to forget and keep in touch. So there you go fellas.
Roma: pretty good show, i’m glad we shared the stage with I Am The Tiger and there i finally met Gabbo and Cinghio from Orange Man Theory cause they set up the show and hosted us. Very nice guys. Thanks to some other friends of mine for shoving up even if it was wednesday: Marcello (Snake Cult), Fantasma, Jai & Josh from TOKILL, Luca from ZU and other occasional people i often bumped while i lived in Rome.
Pescara: at first sight the town sucked, i mean, it doesn’t look like a proper place to hang out but then it turned as the coolest place. We have to really, really say thank you to Ale from Vibratacore for hosting us as we were Madonna and to Manuele from Autobahn for setting up the show. We had a great time with them, it was rad, hope to see those lads as soon as i can.
Prato: some ppl there opened a new skatepark and we tried to play in. The sound was orrible, not really a suitable spot for shows. Some cool guys but too many posers. We really appreciated the commitment of the owners in building up that place anyway, but few ppl came to the show. Incoming Cerebral Overdrive come to say hello and we strarted to feel better cause they’re good pals. The good thing too was meeting Angelica Mariner, a band we now like and support, i bought their Ep sometime ago over some diy webstore and i thought it was good, but their live stepped up my esteem. The show sucked, the stage was too tall and i was constantly scared to fall down, really, i suck a lot too. Then we slept on the floor.
Arese/Milano: with Rome one pf the best shows so far. Thanks to Crono, Simone and to everyone involved with SGA shows cause we were really excited to play there, is kinda cult spot for me. It has been a special night cause since we played again with I Am the Tiger and Angelica Mariner, a lot of ppl showed up and we enjoyed a very relaxed atmpsphere despiting the hell on stage. We love you. In the end i can say we had a very good time, i felt really lucky getting chance to see/meet people so nice. Hope we’ll see again soon.

CODROIPO TOUR WITH RRRN!

I'd like to celebrate with few words a special weekend we spent with our pals in Radio Riot Right Now (click here to dig their tunes fella, you can even fully download their new album!).
Some is wondering about the meaning of codroipo, well, is the name of a town next Udine (north/eastern Italy) were REM were supposed to play (we have seen the flyer hangin around the streets of Trieste, a beautiful town). The point is that Codroipo is the anagram of "porco dio", a really tough and rude bad word meaning "god is a pig" more or less. If you already realized that this blog is kinda useless and stupid well you got the point, is exactly how we spent time together, drinking and joking with bad words like we were 12 or something. That's why we love you so much guys. Beside the bullshits they are a very good band, with an impressive live impact, awesome musicians, and i do believe Silva is a great, great singer, he knows his job very well. We found several car accidents on our way to the shows and while we were in a queue on the highway a van filled with surfers came beside us asking if were a band. We said yes and they gave us a bunch of weed as a present, we gave them our cd and watched them disappear in the traffic listening to it with a blasting volume. Awesome ahahahahah.
But those shows wouldn't have been the same without Pucho from DEVOTION, the best roadie/merchandiser ever, the one and the only bad-sex-jokes pro.

BELGIUM AND HOLLAND ARE MAJOR STUFF

I write this blog in order to thank and send hugs to the ones who deserve it: first to Nicolas from FUH (we love all those guys), BA (best translator ever), Jean Pierre (he gave us his floor and his cat to manage, you're supercool man), Igor (he gave me chance to visit Amsterdam for the first time).
Shows were relly good, i personally thik Liege (Belgium) was the best for some reasons, the club was located in a "red zone" with old and uninhabited buildings, peep shows, night clubs, junkies and prostitutes, it remined me home. Amsterdam was extra cool too except from the fucking flu and weed smoke that makes me sick (i'm not edge or something but that smell makes me literally throw up).

Anyway sunday morning i woke up and after i spent 8 euro for a very good and typical Dutch breakfast i did throw up. The we spent 14 hours on the van to come back with flu, i was fucked up, but happy.

ABOUT THE EP RECORDINGS

Yo fellas since everybody knows we recorded our new EP Why Brothers in analog tape a load of people out there used to ask how/where. I'll briefly try to say everything.
We went to Giulio Favero's studio (he plays in Teatro Degli Orrori by the way) near Padova-Italy, the recording room was big enough to let us playing all together with really unbearable volume. He put some mics where he knew was best, we played our 4 songs the whole afternoon and that's it. At 7 o clock the game was over, we just needed to come back the day after to tape the voices.
The tape machine is quite big and a lovely groovy vintage sight:

On the 2nd day we recorded the voices, the most in the morning cause later we started to draft the mix, the hardest part. Giulio is super cool and he really got our sound concepts at once. The way he did the mix is kinda hard to explain, he played the tapes mixing levels and effects live, as an instrument trough effects pedals. We played in the big room every track trough amps and speakers to catch and manage a real, natural reverb. Really, that turned us on, was awesome. We did this mixing process in a hurry cause our deadline was 3 days, next time we'll surely spend more time on it.
I'm personally very satisfied on how we taped the voices and about the results (but also because Giulio gave me the chance to record the guitar with an original 76' English Orange speaker ahahaha).
The week after Paolo and Andrea went to bips studio in Milan with Maurizio Giannotti (that dude was in Afterhours i guess) and made the analog mastering, i don't know that much about it, i just know Maurizio gave us a discount cause those broke asses didn't have enough money for the gas to come back home, that's true.
Caterina Pecoraro took those lovely pics of our days in Padova, there you go some:
